electric kool-aid, anyone?

[02 Sep 2006|11:07pm]

I'm leaving for seattle from greenwich ct on the 20th of september. it goes like this:

I-80 through Pennsylvania, Ohio, and into Indiana
I-90 through Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota, South Dakota, Wyoming, and Idaho, then into Washington.

I need safe places to stay. You don't even have to let me in the house - couches are good but I would be equally happy with pitching a tent in a backyard - it's not comforts I'm looking for so much as free or cheap safe sleeping. My budget isn't huge but I can do small work trades, help out with whatever i can while I'm there, plus I'm fun. I'll give you hula hoop lessons? I don't know. Or, if any of you have done a similar trip - where's the cheap camping?

Do ANY of you live in the middle of the country and can maybe help me out? I will, on my honor, extend similar comforts to travellers in need when I am able to do so.

x-posted to my journal and a few other road trip focused communities. please put up with me :)

I just joined, but I've been fascinated by those Pranksters for some time now...

Question: Have any of you guys ordered things from this key-z site? I don't know, it just weirded me out that they don't really confirm, but hopefully it's all good.

Shameless promo.. screwjacks Thompson community, will be awesome.

So rumor has it that a Gap store has opened up on Haight-ashbury. How depressing.

I still haven't found any newer "hippy" bands (if you will) that I really liked. None of the bands have been able to match the intensity of the bands from the 60s. Hippy bands nowadays don't really seem to want to get out there either. If anyone could recommend any bands that are still recording and performing that could satisfy me, that would be lovely.

If you want this to stay alive, something ridiculous needs to be done.

I really wish I had livedo n Haight-Ashbury.

For the sake of a grade [22 May 2005|06:23pm]

[ mood | bored ]

Hey kids. 17, female, from New York (Long Island specifically), etc etc etc.

With intros out of the way, I come asking for some help. I'm writing a term paper for my history class on the Merry Pranksters and their influence on the Beat Generation. Does anyone know of some good sources of info (preferrably books, because my teacher is being difficult and not letting us use more than like two internet sources) pertaining to this? I'm good at writing papers but I never really know where to start. Some aid would be greatly appreciated.

Confessions of a Magnetic Poetry junkie [18 Apr 2005|06:34pm]

Says Quoth D. (addy-oh) Rave-on:
Reality surprises the cool cats
Like too much truth in a million directions
Is in and of itself a horrible jungle
That never starts over with a good beat
Or reconsiders the possibility of plastic food with seeds!

the only war that matters is the war against the imagination [18 Apr 2005|05:39pm]

[ mood | alright ]

hey kids i'm wondering if anyone else here likes diane di prima the writer. she is my favorite beat writer; although i am not very well read on her (i have about 6 1960s-ish poems of hers in an anthology and then i have LOBA which is one of her more recent things, and which confused me as it was all about alchemy and magick and not like zen poetry at all, which was what i was expecting) i have read it well and i love her. she saved me in a lot of ways (whatever kurt cobain didn't do) and i've actually been thinking about writing her a letter... she still lives in san francisco, n'est-ce pas?

favorite poems:
to the unnamed buddhist nun who burned herself to death on the night of june 3, 1966
death sunyata chant: a rite for passing over
the loba in flanders

hail and farewell [17 Apr 2005|02:57pm]

my name is anndal, or dilly. i'm 16 and female and queer. here's a linearization (which is tricky) of my journey the past few years starting in about 7th grade
"punk music is cool"-->nirvana-->antihomophobicism (oh, i'm gay)-->anarchy-->walt whitman-->w burroughs -->beat poets-->the beatles, doors, dead-->entheogens-->hinduism-->buddhism-->zen-->samsara=nirvana

that was the worst introduction ever.

i just got some salvia two nights ago and am waiting for a suitable opportunity to dance with the green goddess.

Hey all!

Cross-posted a bit, but just to grab some interest and hopefully feedback!

Offbeat zine Horse Child Breakfast (HCB) is now online -

Some great writers, musicians, and artists.

My own stuff is behind the "Jake" link - all my books for free.. the bottom two are my personal favorites - most recent, and probably some of the best.

Crudslide (Crudslide.com) - another artist of HCB, is my project as well.

Enjoy, and please, I love feedback - I'm sure the other contributors would like hearing from you too! Review me!

Take care, and hope to hear from some of you soon...
